Hmm I think the "when did I last spread" I shared in this post could be useful. You could have mini calendars on one page like I have and then a colour-coded key for things like the day you planted each variety, the maturity date, when you last fertilized, when you last treated for a certain pest, etc. And you're right, it will evolve as you learn what you need to pay attention to and figure out the easiest way to track things. That's the beauty of a blank notebook! You can always change things up and try something different.
I’ve journaled for years in whatever spiral journal caught my eye. I’ve never used a bullet journal. Last year, after finally getting a garden plot in my city’s community garden, I started a garden journal. I was able to capture some of my garden activity but it was very unorganized. For 2025 I’m thinking of starting a bullet journal but am unsure how to organize or setup the journal. There is so much information and data to track. I’ve been searching YouTube hoping to find some examples. So far, I’ve not found anything that has grabbed me. If I do this right, it could be a great tool for future garden planning.
I love the idea of a bullet journal for gardening! It might be helpful to look at some gardening journals that are already on the market for inspiration and then you could recreate a customized version for yourself in a notebook. Can you give me some examples of the data you want to track?
There is the basic information that I need like garden layout. Also the things I want to plant, things I have planted (date planted, maturity date). Information about pests and their control is important as well as plant diseases. I need to track soil health and weather and maybe harvest information. And of course, photos, sketches and other "artful" things. Since 2025 will be only my second year gardening, I'm afraid I will leave out an important category. I have viewed a number of journals on YouTube, but have not found exactly what I envision. I think I am going to have to dive in and create something. Over time I will figure out what is missing.
Sorry Terri! I thought I replied to you here in this thread, but I just realized that I added a completely separate comment! Oops!
Here's a copy and paste of my response: Hmm I think the "when did I last spread" I shared in this post could be useful. Also, there's a new comment from Ayla and she suggests looking on Etsy for downloadable garden journals as she's had success with that in the past.
There are downloadable garden journals on Etsy. In my experience of having needed the same thing, Etsy was the richest source
Oh thanks for sharing this tip!
Thanks for reading, Opal! ☺️
Great list! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
