Cassandra, your Substack is aptly titled because I do feel you and I are kindred spirits 💛 I, too, discovered oracle cards (I use the Wild Unknown deck by Kim Krans) in my late twenties and use them for journaling. They've been a great source of comfort and connection for me. I don't have many people in my life who use these decks, so it's always really nice to meet others who do. Thank you for sharing!

Oh, your comment just made my day! 🩵 I don't know of anyone else in my life who uses these decks either, but you're right, it's so nice to connect with others who do online.

Really interesting- I would like to learn more about using oracle cards- just bought a beautiful round deck and though I have some familiarity with tarot, I’ve none with oracle- any suggestions to learn more about them ( hoping free)?

Try this video on using oracle and tarot together for journaling and let me know if it helps! She explains a bit of the difference between the two as well. https://youtu.be/ucfBoM3y2N8?si=A_8YCJHU_2wfkxlm

I’m in my late 20s (in fact in the last year of my 20s) and feeling realllly drawn to get my first deck the last few months :) Loved the post!

I grew up in a religious country so still have that strange thought in my head that tarot is trouble and dark stuff. Even though I literally write dark fantasy and my main characters are witches. Make this make sense 😂 I think I’ll join you in tarot journaling soon!

It makes perfect sense that you'd be hesitant to pick up a deck given the environment you had growing up! I think once you start working with a deck, it will remove some of the mystery and eventually that thought will go away.

Picking out your first deck is so fun! I recommend going with one that has artwork that you're really drawn to because that will make you want to pick it up again and again. And I wouldn't recommend a pip deck for a beginner. A pip deck is a deck where the minor cards in the suits don't depict a scene. For example, the 4 of Cups card literally has 4 cups on it and that's it. It'll be easier to learn the meanings if the meaning is depicted in a scene on the card. Hope that makes sense!
